Fan Media: Changing the voice of football

Updated: Nov 4, 2020

Fan media and the culture that surrounds it has gripped me over the past 2 to 5 years. Particularly, the short to medium form content that many of the biggest fan channels regularly produce. Initially, I watched 'TheRedmenTV' and it soon became a consistent part of my match-day experience supporting LFC. From that point onwards, I started to delve into the world of independent football content, a truly refreshing alternative to growingly lacklustre mainstream punditry at the time. The majority of clubs in the top 2 leagues of english football have a dedicated fan media outlet on YouTube. Beyond that, podcasts, message boards and fanzines previously and still continue to populate the background of elite level football. It's the video-based content however, that has thrust fan media into the spotlight. In this short documentary, I aimed to learn just how contemporary media has changed the way we perceive football.

This is a topic I am fascinated with, if you have any thoughts you would like to discuss further drop me a message on any of my social channels.
