Slowthai's highly anticipated album 'Tyron' is scheduled to be released next month

Northampton maverick Slowthai is due to release his second studio album on the February 5th as planned, as he took to Twitter to tell fans he “he would not allow this virus to “keep holding us back”. This came just hours before BBC Radio 1 made his new track 'Mazza', which features A$AP Rocky, its ‘Hottest Record In The World’.

Slowthai has been transparent of late about his own struggles with mental health, particularly brought on by the third National Lockdown.

Ty said, “Films, art and music have helped me most in my darkest moments with the majority of this album being made last year I would hope that it can help someone as a distraction amongst the chaos and shift their mind-set positively.”

The new single Mazza, combines all the aspects of Slowthai’s authentically British energy with Rocky’s charisma. It also has ASAP Mob’s production imprinted all over it and makes for a certified banger.

Speaking on Annie Mac’s show on Tuesday night, Ty said he was a little ‘star struck’ producing this track with the Harlem-rapper, and 'shocked' when Rocky gave the demo he sent over lots of love.

The new album, 'Tyron', is a follow up to 2019's Mercury Prize-nominated debut album 'Nothing Great About Britain'. The new record features the previously released tracks 'NHS' and 'Feel Away'.

Talking about the album, Slowthai said: “I’ve personally struggled more with my own mental health during this time and wanted to let you know that you’re not alone if you feel the same. However, I’m trying to do my best to stay positive and look forward on ways in which we can come out of this and make the whole world a better place for every one of us.”

This could be the album that keeps us all from going insane this lockdown, or implores us to rave it up in our living rooms.

It's reassuring to hear that a UK icon struggles through the same issues as the rest of us during these uncertain times. If you or anyone you know is struggling here is a list of charities and helplines that may be able to help.
