MMP MAJOR MULTIMEDIA PROJECT

Joel Griffiths, Bournemouth University

What is this? - A 7-minute-long TV documentary exploring the growing phenomenon, of football fan media.

Why make this? - A lot has been made about the ‘phenomenon’ of fan TV, but what does it mean to run a fan channel?

What is the daily routine of someone produces post-match amateur content?

What are the struggles or inconveniences that they face?

Why do they do what they do, what motivates someone to produce content without significant financial benefits?

What's my aim?

  1. Documented recognition of the hard work that goes into fan media.

  2. Whereas fanzines worked with the same concept and level of commitment, fan channels have given them the platform they needed and deserve, analysing how this has changed the football media landscape is a major aim.

  3. Giving the viewer a better vision on where this is going. How will the relationship between mainstream and independent broadcasters develop.

Jordan Halford, social media editor at Sky Sports is a die-hard Leicester City fan. He gave me some great insight into just how a major broadcaster like Sky has adapted to the influx of fan media over the past 5-years. Maintaining Sky's position as industry leaders in the Premier League is the bread and butter of his great work.
